Comic websites have outed the Green Lantern as DC's first gay superhero.Green Lantern, one of DC Comics' oldest and most enduring heroes, is serving as a beacon for the publisher again, this time as a proud, mighty and openly gay hero.

Ever since the comic publisher announced that one of its top-tier characters would be revealed as gay, fanboys and girls have been in a frenzy over the sexual orientations of their favourite heroes.

Would it be Superman? Or Batman? Or Robin? The stakes were high - these characters are multi-million-dollar franchises.

DC's rival, Marvel, fired the first pink shot, when it announced that one of its heroes, Northstar, would be marrying his boyfriend in the pages of Astonishing X-Men.

Yesterday Bleeding cool reported with confidence that the hero DC would be reintroducing to its newly revised universe as gay was the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott.

And this is where it gets tricky. Because the Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds played on the big screen last year is a different Green Lantern to the Scott Green Lantern.

That Green Lantern was Hal Jordan and is the most popular version of the character. Scott, who made his first appearance in 1940, didn't even wear the all-over green body suit and was never part of an intergalactic peace keeping corps. He wore green pants and a green cloak and wielded a strange lamp that housed mystical green flame. He was also vulnerable to wood (no sniggering).The change is revealed in the pages of the second issue of "Earth 2" out next week, and comes on the heels of what has been an expansive year for gay and lesbian characters in the pages of comic books from Archie to Marvel and others.

But purists and fans note: This Green Lantern is not the emerald galactic space cop Hal Jordan who was, and is, part of the Justice League and has had a history rich in triumph and tragedy.

 James Robinson, who writes the new series, said Alan Scott is the retooled version of the classic Lantern whose first appearance came in the pages of "All-American Comics" No. 16 in July 1940.

And his being gay is not part of some wider story line meant to be exploited or undone down the road, either.

"This was my idea," says Robinson, noting that before DC relaunched all its titles last summer, Alan Scott had a son who was gay.

But given "Earth 2" features retooled and rebooted characters, Scott is not old enough to have a grown son.

"By making him younger, that son was not going to exist anymore," Robinson said.

"He doesn't come out. He's gay when we see him in issue two," which is due out Wednesday. "He's fearless and he's honest to the point where he realized he was gay and he said 'I'm gay.'"

It's another example of gay and lesbian characters taking more prominent roles in the medium.

In May, Marvel Entertainment said super speedster Northstar will marry his longtime boyfriend in the pages of "Astonishing X-Men." DC comics has other gay characters, too, including Kate Kane, the current Batwoman, The Question, and married characters Apollo and the Midnighter.

A new book about the life of President Obama could reveal some juicy tidbits about his marriage, but his camp is firmly denying them.

Edward Klein’s “The Amateur: Barack Obama In The Whitehouse” claims that Obama and wife Michelle came very close to divorce in 2000 after he went against her advice regarding a run for a seat in the Chicago House Of Representatives. According to Klein, the primary–in which he lost to Congressman Bobby Rush–left the family in debt and Michelle was not happy that her husband disregarded her opinion on how things should have been handled.

“Michelle actually had divorce papers drawn up,” Klein wrote, quoting one of Mrs. Obama’s friends.

A controversial new biography of President Obama claims that Michelle Obama planned to divorce the future president in 2000.

In "The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House," which hit shelves Tuesday, author Edward Klein claims that the divorce talk came eight years into the Obamas' marriage, after President Obama failed to listen to his wife's warnings about challenging Democratic congressman incumbent Bobby Rush for a Chicago House of Representatives seat in 2000. Obama lost the election by a 2-1 margin.

“During the dark days that followed his defeat, he turned to Michelle for comfort. But she was in no mood for sympathy," Klein reportedly writes. "He had refused to listen to her warnings about taking on” Rush.

But is it true? The unauthorized biography, which Klein claims is based on nearly 200 interviews, has been dismissed by presidential spokesperson Eric Schultz. On Monday, Schultz told the Washington Examiner, "Ed Klein has a proven history of reckless fabrication in order to sell books. Nobody in their right mind would believe the nonsense in this one."

Summer was a 5-time Grammy winner who shot to super stardom in the '70s with iconic hits including Last Dance, Hot Stuff and Bad Girls.
She is survived by her husband, three daughters, and four grandchildren.

Tiki Palmer finalises divorce settlement after two years

Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber and his ex-wife have finally reached a settlement in their bitter divorce, a source at Manhattan Supreme Court confirmed Wednesday. The source said the once-happy couple has 60 days to turn in the settlement to the court.

The ex-Giants star was slapped with divorce papers in 2010 after he was seen gallivanting around town with his then-23-year-old mistress — while his pregnant wife, Ginny Barber, spent a week in the hospital.

At the time Barber was an NBC "Today" correspondent.

Last year, Barber proposed to his one-time mistress — former NBC intern Traci Lynn Johnson, who posed in her skivvies for Maxim in 2011. The new couple planned to be married this spring but had to put the wedding on hold when the Barbers went to war over money.

At the time Tiki said he couldn’t afford Ginny’s alimony demand.



The former couple has two sons, and shortly after Ginny filed for divorce she gave birth to twin girls.

Ginny’s attorney, Nancy Chemtob, confirmed the settlement but declined to comment on financial or custodial specifics.

“The entire matter is settled,” Chemtob said. “Everything is resolved.”

In case you don’t remember, Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant. Since making the announcement just days after Kim Kardashian filed for divorce, Kourtney has been pretty mum on what’s going on with her uterus. I just assumed she was happily baking a new little Disick and there was nothing much to get worked up over – which is a nice change for the Kardashians.
Well, a new report from In Touch Weekly (available via their print edition) is claiming that there is major trouble in paradise between Kourtney and long-time beau and baby daddy, Scott Disick!
Viewers of the ever-annoying Kourtney and Kim Take New York witnessed Scott and Kourtney have a whole host of relationship problems, which they both claimed to have worked through. Nevertheless, it was surprising when shortly after filming ended, Kourtney announced her pregnancy. Perhaps they moved too fast!
Apparently, Scott has been picking on Kourtney and calling her fat as of late. During a recent dinner date, Scott’s taunting nearly left Kourtney in tears! “Scott was picking on her, making fun of her weight,” reveals an insider. “He even told the waiter that she would have ‘a side of beef.’” Even worse, Scott has taken to calling her “Portney”, as a way to describe her new supposedly portly figure. Scott’s comments and constant teasing have left Kourtney feeling insecure and unattractive.
According to insiders, Kourtney has come to expect this kind of behavior from Scott, who has been downright rude and unsupportive throughout her second pregnancy. Kourtney had believed having a second child would make Scott grow up and would reinforce their relationship, but sadly it’s made things worse! Scott has returned to his pre-Mason partyboy ways and is now spending countless nights out at the bars with this friends, flirting with other girls.
After a recent fight with Kourtney, Scott ditched his family for a wild time in Vegas at the opening of 10ak. “They had a fight, so Scott jumped on a plane and left her behind,” the source reveals. Scott has allegedly left all the parenting duties to Kourtney as well, while he flits around, focusing on his own whims. “Scott still expects Kourtney to wait on him,” the source says.”He’s just a dog.”
Because of Scott’s treatment of her and his disinterest in his family, Kourtney has started to believe Scott is only staying with her for her money! Scott has apparently become more aggressive with his demands to get his own slice of the Kardashian pie; wanting a larger percentage for appearing on their reality shows and lobbying for his own endorsement deals. It makes sense to me, but this is a family that does NOT like to share the wealth!
“He’s even tried to go behind her back to negotiate his own deal for rights to the baby’s first photos,” an insider shares. “It’s like all their baby is to him is another opportunity to cash in.”
So why does Scott’s bad behavior persist? Insiders report that the reality star refuses to leave Scott while she’s pregnant. “Scott gets whatever he wants because he knows she won’t leave him. Kourtney won’t learn,” the insider describes.
I’m not sure how much of this I buy based on what I saw on KKTNY – although, we know that show isn’t exactly a reliable source for reality! Sources have previously claimed that the trouble in their relationship is scripted! And speaking of reality…

Oh, for the love of irony… Kim and Leann Rimes have found religion. And each other. The twice divorced, sex tape siren and the adulteress have apparently bonded over their recent involvement in Christian fellowship. So that explains Kim’s sudden interest in Tebow!

Kim Kardashian, star of Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Kourtney and Kim Take New York was recently slammed by Mad Men actor Jon Hamm, who referred to Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton as “idiots,” in a recent issue of a UK magazine. Kim Kardashian, however, has some comments of her own as she recently fired back at Jon Hamm. What did Kim have to say? Read on to find out…
Jon Hamm recently told Elle UK: “Whether it’s Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated. Being a [expletive] idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture. You’re rewarded significantly,” in the magazine’s April issue.
While Jon Hamm may have a point, Kim Kardashian did not take the comments lightly, and recently took to Twitter to air her feelings about being called an “idiot.” “We’re all working hard and we all have to respect one another. Calling someone who runs their own businesses, is a part of a successful TV show, produces, writes, designs, and creates, ‘stupid,’ is in my opinion careless,” Kim Kardashian Tweeted yesterday in response.
Kim Kardashian is definitely upset at Jon Hamm, but she took the high road and admitted that she has respect for him, but: “Not everyone takes the same path in life.”

"Whether it's Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated," he told Elle.
"Being a f---ing idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you're rewarded significantly."
The Golden Globe-winning actor added that the success of reality TV stars "doesn't make any sense" to him.

He added that he also didn't understand why blonde, skinny women have become the epitome of beauty in modern society, saying curvy women like his Mad Men co-star Christina Hendricks are more beautiful.
